Name: Loki Laufeyson

Origin: The son of frost giants who was hidden away by his parents due to shame over his small size. He was adopted after his father (the frost giant king Laufey) was killed in battle by the king of the Asgardian gods, Odin. Raised by Odin, Loki developed an intense jealousy of Odin’s biological son Thor. Training in the arts of sorcery, Loki got the title “God of Mischief” but as his lust for power, jealousy of Thor, and cruel contempt for others grew, and trouble making deeds escalated, he became the “God of Evil”. Loki swore to destroy Thor and become ruler of Asgard.

Powers/Abilities: Loki as both the son of giants and as a sorcerer possesses a wide range of abilities. He is shown to have superhuman strength enabling him to lift over 50 tons and destroy a building with a single blow, his strength being greater than the majority of Asgardians. He has superhuman durability that makes him invulnerable to gunfire, high impacts (blows from powerful opponents such as Spider-Man and Thor), temperature extremes, energy blasts (he has withstood attacks from the Mandarin’s power rings), etc. Loki (aided by magic) can survive attacks that would kill most frost giants or gods of Asgard. Loki has advanced healing capabilities that, when enhanced with magic, have allowed him to reattach severed limbs and even his own head. His frost giant body can exert itself at peak capacity for up to 24 hours or longer when fueled by magic. While not immortal (like the Olympian gods Zeus or Ares) Loki ages extremely slowly when compared to humans and is immune to Earthly diseases and poisons. Though not on Thor’s level, Loki is a talented hand to hand combatant who is skilled in swordsmanship. Loki has vast skill in sorcery which has been shown to rival the Silver Surfer’s immense cosmic power. Among Loki’s magical abilities are: telekinesis, force field generation, firing mystical energy blasts, casting illusions, manipulation of the elements, enhancing his own physical abilities temporarily, teleportation, limited telepathy (hypnosis, projection of thoughts), shapeshifting, transmutation (changing something into something else like a cloud into a dragon), bestowing super powers, enchanting objects, casting a variety of spells and bringing inanimate objects to life. Loki has a genius-level intellect which makes him an accomplished strategist, manipulator, liar, and master of the mystic arts. He can speak all known languages in the universe. Loki’s greatest weakness is his arrogance and ambition leading him to greatly underestimate his enemies (in particular his human opponents) and alienating his allies. His powers are also weaker on Earth than on Asgard. Though Loki has some psychic powers, he can’t read minds or directly control them.

Random trivia: In a classic case of a well laid plan backfiring, Loki accidentally helped form the Avengers. When, as part of a plot against Thor, he framed the Hulk for a crime in order to force a confrontation between the Green Goliath and Thunder God, he also attracted the attention of the invincible Iron Man, Ant-Man, and the Wasp. Realizing Loki’s deception and the Hulk’s innocence, the five heroes teamed up to stop Loki and they decided to band together as Earth’s mightiest heroes. Loki is directly responsible for the creation of Thor’s enemy, the Absorbing Man as well as being indirectly responsible for the creation of the Wrecking Crew who would also battle Thor. The Silver Surfer has stated Loki wields enough power to destroy planets.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
